Common Horizon Calgary:

History shows us that when everyday people get organized, we win.

From affordable housing to labour rights, mass movements have always been how working people push back against wealthy CEOs and the corporate lobbyists calling the shots. That’s why we’re building people power.
Community-led chapters across Canada are bringing neighbours together to fight for clean air, affordable energy, and smarter choices that bring monthly costs down and put people first.

The solutions to the affordability crisis, the climate crisis, and the crumbling care economy already exist - we just need to decide who this country works for. Add your name here to join the movement in so called Calgary

Student Energy:

We are a student-led group from the University of Calgary, we focus on professional development, project development and advocacy within the energy sector. We recently installed a 7.2kW Solar PV system ☀️ on the Siksika Reserve and hosted our annual conference (Bridging Perspectives: The Road to Net-Zero 2025) last February! Currently, we are working with the University of Calgary and Student Energy Global to host a national conference during May of next year! If you would like to collaborate (or help us raise funds) please reach out ;).

CISSA:

CISSA empowers Indigenous students in STEAM by blending academic and cultural learning. From Métis finger weaving workshops to networking events and conferences, we build community and elevate Indigenous voices in science, tech, and energy conversations.

Calgary Climate Hub:

Climate Justice is Racial Justice is Labour Justice is Gender Justice is Social Justice! The Calgary Climate Hub's new Climate Justice program emerged as a renewed commitment to addressing the root causes of the climate crisis and its disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities. In collaboration with MRU and UofC Social Work Departments, this program convenes communities across Calgary to explore systemic injustice and pathways for collective equity actions. Visit our website for more.

Calgary Tree Equity (part of Forests For Calgary) - this program uses a nature based solutions approach to address the glaring issue of tree and plant inequity in our city. Actions include the planting of Miyawaki Forests, development of a tree equity map, new Tree Equity Ambassador roles, and the current development of a nature based solutions network.

Art of Protest - join us monthly to make protest and rally art, music, and movements. No experience necessary! Join a community in action.

Annual Advocacy Campaigns - supporting civil society to engage with the democratic process, and engage with municipal policy for climate and equity outcomes. Campaigns this year focus on Clean Electricity Transition, Housing Security, Public Transportation, Active Transportation, and our Headwaters and Forests.

ARCHIVED TEXT

For the first time in Calgary, YINTAH is coming to the big screen. This award-winning documentary follows Wet’suwet’en leaders as they defend their ancestral lands from industrial development without consent, and invite deeper conversations about land, governance, and the future we share.

Hosted at the historic Plaza Theatre, the evening will feature remarks from Jennifer Wickham, co-director and producer of the film, followed by a panel with local Indigenous and climate leaders exploring how these stories connect to life here in Alberta.

Whether you’re curious about climate, passionate about community, or just looking for a meaningful night out, this is a chance to connect with people and ideas that matter. Local organizations will also be on-site before and after the screening to share ways you can learn more and get involved.

One night only. Real stories. Local voices.

This project is led by a team of volunteers including Jasveen Brar, Rachel Boere, Kat Cadungog, Maria Granados, and Kathryn Hoffart. Meet the volunteers behind this project here.

Thank you!

Our deepest thanks to the Calgary Foundation—your generous support made this work not only possible, but truly meaningful.

This project is developed in collaboration with Finance Engage Sustain (FES).
